This collaboration worked really well (let’s first get that out of the way).
It also seemed to catch the industry off-guard because it featured an artiste that wasn’t necessarily mainstream (OMEGA 256) and it also involved a great, catchy hook. And it’s not just the hook that is catchy – it’s got a catchy interlude, a great verse, a pretty decent bridge, and complete harmonies.
In fact, See You Tonight is one of those strange things that the music industry is increasingly struggling to come across – a great bit of music.
The chemistry between the two singers is palpable. I have always rated Cindy, of course, but OMEGA 256 was a pleasant surprise. She has some decent pipes and takes that first verse with aplomb. She is not awed to be singing alongside Cindy.
Cindy adds some sass to the song with her ad libbing and her ability to slip into ragga muffin mode with ease. The production process of the song incorporates dancehall elements with Afro - pop and house, making for an inclusive groove that makes the song work for audiences of both artistes – OMEGA 256 is a mainstay in the Western part of the country while Cindy redefined dancehall in this happy town years ago.
But mostly, this is fun, musical melody that is easy on the ear and memorable, and did not require the release of nudes to garner relevance. It certainly caught the music industry off-guard, with radio presenters from various stations seeming somewhat puzzled as they introduced the track.
It was fantastic hearing a catchy, decent pop song drop, something that caught on purely because of its musicality.
