Beauty pageants have a knack for producing surprising winners.

However, at the just-concluded Miss Tourism contest held on September 23 at the Kampala Serena Hotel, 20-year-old Miss Tourism Buganda Sydney Nabulya Kavuma had been the outright favourite during the trail.

When the international business student at Nakawa-based Makerere University Business School was named the 2022/2023 queen, there as a thunderous roar and nods of approval.

Nabulya’s ‘honeymoon’ is over. It is time to work again.

Latest news is that she is set to spearhead a ‘homecoming’, where she and other pageants are to go on a countrywide tour.

The tour’s aim is to promote tourism sites in the different regions of Uganda that include Karamoja, Kigezi, and Buganda, where the current queen comes from.

She will tour alongside Miss Popularity, Miss Photogenic, Miss Congeniality, Miss National Costume, Miss Talent, Sports Queen, Miss Heritage and the Uganda Wildlife Education Center brand ambassador, among others.

Under the theme Re-thinking Tourism, the event, which also comes at a time Miss Tourism Uganda is celebrating 10 years, is expected to attract dignitaries, including Members of Parliament and reigning beauty pageants.
