The National Resistance Movement vice-chairman for eastern region, Mike Mukula, has urged the Ministry of Education and Sports to prioritize African history. The call came during the premiere of the docuseries Tuko Pamoja: Lango Segment at the National Theatre on March 10, 2024.

Mukula highlighted that African history has been distorted by non-African writers. He emphasised the importance of having African academicians rewrite and prioritise the teaching of African history in schools.

According to Mukula, understanding one's roots is crucial for the younger generation to appreciate the value of being African.

"I urge the Ministry of Education to strengthen and embrace African history in primary and secondary schools. Young people are embracing western culture, forgetting their true identity. Learning history is essential for understanding the value of our culture and fostering pride in being black with a rich cultural heritage in Africa," he stated.

In the context of Africa's ongoing effort to redefine itself, Mukula, who was the guest of honour at the event, stressed the significance of shaping the mindset of the younger generation. He argued that, given the infiltration of western values, a shift in mindset is necessary to instill the belief that African culture is superior to foreign influences.

Produced by Dr. Cindy Evelyn Magara, the Tuko Pamoja: Lango, Karamajong, and Itesot Segment narrates the story of how different groups in Lango became linguistically divided despite sharing a common origin.
