Veteran singer and film director Mariam Ndagire has started a film marketing and promotion agency for locally made films and movies.

Speaking at the Uganda Film and Market Expo at the National Theatre recently, Ndagire said that her agency has been established to connect Ugandan filmmakers to potential buyers of Ugandan films and movies.

“The biggest challenge for Ugandan-made films and movies has been the lack of market and access to platforms that can buy our content. This is the reason why I decided to start a company that will be an aggregator for locally made productions,” she said.

She said she has so far collected about 100 feature films, drama series and TV shows made by Ugandans and she will market them to potential buyers. “Producer will have bargaining power and access to platforms that use Ugandan made films,” she said.

Among the potential buyers of Ugandan-made films, Ndagire is targeting is Uganda Airlines. She hopes that Ugandan movies can be shown to travellers. “This is the reason why we are asking producers to focus on content that truly represents the interests of our country. We would like to sell our country to visitors using films,” she added.
