Saturday night saw the grand finale of the weekly Club Beats at Home online shows.
The online show has been running for six weeks. And for the finale, it had to be done with a bang! To pull this off, the organisers engaged South Africa’s Mafikizolo.
The singing duo were the opening acts who performed from South Africa against pre-recorded tracks. They opened with the song River.
The show, too, was pre-recorded, but premiered on YouTube free of charge.
The essence of online shows is to get fans dancing in their homes since they can no longer go to clubs. And when it comes to dancing, Mafikizolo music does not miss a beat.
Ndihamba Nawe, as one would expect, roused the fans. And the duo’s performance climaxed with their song Udakwa Njalo.
Mafikizolo set the stage and the local acts that followed were given a run for their money.
Kenneth Mugabi took the challenge first and maintained the tempo set by Mafikizolo. He performed Ebinyuma, off his Ugandan album, as well as Naki, arguably his biggest hit. The buzz online showed that he was welcomed in almost equal measure as Mafikizolo.
Surprise acts of the night were Lydia Jazmine, Lillian Mbabazi and Irene Ntale
Up next was Navio, whose hip-hop prowess changed the flow of the party, but not the tempo! Pallaso did the same.
However, the streaming started buffering and freezing as Navio and Pallaso performed, which upset the audience.
“Get your connection right. I can’t miss my Pallaso’s performance,” commented a frustrated fan on YouTube.
The surprise acts of the night were Lydia Jazmine, Lillian Mbabazi and Irene Ntale on the same stage. Ntale was on the guitar, while Jazmine and Mbabazi performed the vocals.
The trio closed their performance with American musician Tina Turner’s Simply The Best. It is a tough song, vocally, but the three did not disappoint.
Cindy wrapped up the two-hour show with energy, performing hit songs such as Tempo and Copy Cat, among others.
The production by Fenon Events was on point. The sound, stage and lighting were executed well. With over 15,000 viewers on YouTube, one can conclude that the event was a success.
