"It is not just about us – it is about celebrating the power of comedy to unite and uplift people, especially during challenging times. We started with nothing but a dream. To see how far we have come is truly humbling," Madrat said.

Comedians Madrat and Chiko are set to mark 10 years in the stand-up comedy art form at the Kampala Sheraton Hotel on August 9, crowning themselves as one of the longest practising duos in stand-up comedy.

The duo, who carved out their path from humble beginnings in Mukono, broke out when their footage from the defunct Comedy Files aired on TV in 2013 and, later, went on to become one of the most hilarious comedy outfits at the Africa Laughs show.

“Their ability to connect with all audiences from different walks of life and stay relevant for 10 years is a testament to their versatility, remarkable craft, resilience, and patience. It is only just right that we celebrate them, not for just the 10 years of laughter, but for the huge impact they have had on comedy and the entertainment industry at large in Uganda," said Aly Allibhai, the boss of Talent Africa, the organisers of the concert.

"We are thrilled to be celebrating 10 years in the comedy business, a journey that has been quite a challenging one," said Madrat, real name Dickson Lubega. "It is not just about us – it is about celebrating the power of comedy to unite and uplift people, especially during challenging times. We started with nothing but a dream. To see how far we have come is truly humbling."

Frank Mubiru aka Chiko echoed his sentiments, adding: "Our journey hasn't been easy, but every challenge we have faced has only made us stronger. We are grateful for the support of our fans, who have been with us every step of the way and we are excited to share this moment with them”

Their anniversary celebrations come at a time when stand-up comedy as whole faces backlash from a section of the public over unclean and controversial approaches to causing laughter from the crowd.

While the duo have not been widely known for taking this route, the question still lingers on about whether or not stand-up comedy can survive another 10 years.
