Emily Kitto Mwaka, a long-serving Catholic volunteer and educationist has entered the annals of the Church as the first ever woman head of the Catholic laity of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Kampala.

She was unveiled and introduced to the Christian faithful of Kampala Archdiocese during the Chrism mass at Lubaga Cathedral on Holy Thursday. The introduction function was performed by the former Pastoral Coordinator, Fr. Joseph Sserugga.

Kitto was warmly received by the Metropolitan Archbishop, Paul Ssemogerere who consequently cross-examined her and later inaugurated her into the office. Ssemogerere also commissioned other members of the executive of the archdiocesan pastoral council that were elected alongside Kitto last year.

In her inaugural speech, Kitto pledged to be faithful and loyal to the Church as she executes her duties. She also promised to be in full solidarity with the Archbishop, the priests, the religious men and women and all the Christians of Kampala Archdiocese.

Kitto has replaced Mr. Aloysius Kalanzi, who recently concluded his mandatory term of office.
