The Anglican Bishop of Thika Diocese in Kenya, the Rt Rev. Julius Wanyoike, has called on the people of Teso and Ugandans at large to promote peace, unity and reconciliation as they usher in the New Year.

Bishop Wanyoike made the call while preaching as a guest preacher at St Peter’s Cathedral in Soroti city during New Year prayers.

He urged Christians to be mindful of their conduct and to live as examples of peace within their communities.

“As we receive the year 2026, it’s an opportunity for us to decide for prosperity for one another, and as members of St Peter's Cathedral, it would be good for us to pray for the stability of the cathedral and our nation,” Bishop Wanyoike said.

The service was held under the theme anchored in Jesus Christ for unity, stability and peace.

“Let us reconcile with one another because there is peace in our midst. As we look into 2026, there is a need for us also to be keen on how we are praising God; we also need to be careful on what God wants us to do,” Bishop Wanyoike preached.

Meanwhile, the Bishop of Soroti Diocese, the Rt Rev. Kosea Odongo, challenged Christians to be hardworking in the New Year, noting that even miracles require effort.

Bishop Odongo warned against laziness, urging believers to take responsibility for improving their lives and the well-being of their communities.

“Miracles are worked, you don’t just receive! This year, let us be anchored in Christ for unity, peace, love and stability in our families and our nation,” Bishop Odongo said.

Christians who attended the service welcomed the New Year with optimism, expressing hope for peace, prosperity and personal growth.

“In life, there is no shortcut for success except for hard work, as the bishops preached today. I pray for good health so that I can provide for my family,” said Samson Olaki.

Rachel Wegosasa, a student, said she committed her education into the hands of God, praying that her parents would be able to raise school fees. She also prayed for peace as the country heads towards the general elections.

Church leaders noted that the message of peace, unity and hard work remains especially important as communities navigate social and economic challenges in the year ahead.
