The Archbishop of the Church of the Province of Uganda, the Most Rev. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, has praised the Boys’ and Girls’ Brigade describing it as a unique Christian organization, which has greatly promoted the values of the Christian faith among young people.
Boys’ and Girls’ Brigade, Kaziimba said, is the only organization where girls can co-exist with boys, without being harmed in any way.
Boys' and Girls' Brigade is an old, semi-military organization of the Anglican Church, which inculcates the Christian faith and also promotes the values of discipline, obedience, reverence and self-respect among boys and girls.
Archbishop Kaziimba paid tribute to the Boys’ and Girls’ Brigade during the opening of the organization’s international conference at St. Paul’s Cathedral, Namirembe on Wednesday (August 17, 2022).
In his latter remarks, Kaziimba called upon the dioceses, which had no Boys’ and Girls’ Brigade, to ensure that they establish the organization, so that boys and girls can be well-mentored.
The President of the Boys’ and Girls’ Brigade of Uganda, the Rt. Rev. Bishop Nathan Ahimbisibwe (the Bishop of South Ankole diocese, who was also the homilist), attributed his achievements to the strong moral foundation and guidance that he got from the organisation, which he joined at the age of 12.
He promised to popularize the organization among the Anglican Bishops, who will in turn popularize it in their respective diocese.
The Chairman of the Global Fellowship of Christian Youth (based in New Zealand), Tim Pratt, asked the officers and members of the Boys' and Girls' Brigade to be even more committed to the values of honesty, discipline, solidarity and hard work, in order to counter the contemporary socio-political and economic irregularities.
The Bishop of the American diocese of New England, the Rt. Rev. Andrew Williams, asked the officers and members of the Boy’s and Girls’ Brigade, and all Christians, not to be heartbroken by the unprecedented contemporary challenges, such as Covid-19, wars and joblessness, but to face the same challenges with faith and courage.
He also asked them to be effective agents of change, using the testimony of their words and actions.
The function was attended by delegates from Uganda, and other countries, such as the UK, USA, New Zealand, Scotland, Rwanda, and DRC, just to name a few.
The international conference of the Boys and Girls Brigade is happening concurrently with the national conference at Mengo Senior School, in Rubaga Division. Both conferences will climax on Sunday (August 21, 2022).
