Over the weekend, Kampala unfolded in two distinct moods those who had a plan, and those who simply followed the music.
In Nakawa, that sound led crowds straight to Akamwesi Hostel, where one of the city’s most talked-about party series was quietly building into a full-blown nightlife moment.
What started as a laid-back early evening quickly transformed into a high-energy convergence of sound, style and self-expression. Kampala’s night crowd trickled in with intention, fashion-forward and ready to party.
From statement streetwear to effortless glam, every corner became a runway, with revellers moving between the dancefloor and photobooths as laughter, music and clinking glasses filled the air.
Behind the decks, the DJs understood the assignment. DJ Gnarly set the tone with a smooth, gradual build, easing the crowd into rhythm. DJ Slidethrough and Trellyon Set picked up the pace, while MCs MC Ursh Trey and MC Saint Trevor kept the transitions seamless and the energy fluid. By the time DJ Hady stepped in, the party had hit full stride. Sets from DJ Wiz, DJ Dranix and DJ Jarla Vibes carried that momentum deep into the night.
Across town, a similar pulse was building at Aura Lounge during Shakedown Saturdays. The energy mirrored Nakawa but with its own edge a slightly grittier, high-voltage atmosphere where music and personality collided.
At the center of it was Etania Mutoni, who delivered a commanding set before stepping off the decks and straight into the crowd, dancing and hyping revellers in true “Life of the Party” fashion. She was joined by Linus Sydny, who swapped his tattoo kit for the turntables, adding another layer to the night’s creative expression.
The dual-venue experience painted a clear picture of Kampala’s evolving nightlife one that thrives on individuality, shared moments. Both crows in Nakawa or at Aura showed up with the same intention to feel the moment and live it fully.
Kampala’s night crew knew the drill as they arrived fashionably late but very prepared. Stylish sneakers, statement jackets, and perfectly messy curls filled every corner of the two venues.
“This right here is why Smirnoff is the crowd’s favorite. We create spaces where people can be their authentic selves. This is ‘We Do We’ at its absolute best,” said Raymond Karama, Smirnoff Brand Manager.
