Deus Ndugwa,  popularly known by his stage name Grenade Official, has addressed the circumstances surrounding his recent arrest at fellow singer Fik Fameica’s concert.

His arrest followed charges that were brought against him concerning an altercation in 2023 that took place between him and singer Rickman Manrick at La Terezza Bar and Restaurant in Kampala during which the latter sustained injuries to his lip.

During an interview with a city-based television, Grenade recognised that the altercation was not good because someone could have lost their life.

On Friday, January 26 , the controversial singer was publicly arrested by the Police while at the concert of musician Shafik Walukagga, also known as Fik Fameica. Grenade was later released on bond on January 28, 2024.

He expressed regret about the injuries that Manrick sustained during the altercation.

The singer, however, said the fight was caused by the people both parties were surrounded.

Grenade said he had never had issues with Rickman.

“I like the guy, he is talented and I wish him the best.”

Grenade declared that he does not support hatred, but peace.

The 27-year-old apologised to all the people he has wronged.

The singer, however, said  the arrest happened unexpectedly, saying he was not aware that he was wanted by the Police. He claimed that he was never summoned by the Police.

“I thought I was wanted by street hooligans because they were the ones calling me and calling my friends. The Police did not summon me; Police did not call me…,” Grenade said.

He noted that if the Police had called him, he would have honoured the summon.

This contravenes a statement made by the deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, at a weekly press briefing at Police headquarters Naguru in Kampala on January 29, 2024 in which he said Grenade had been summoned by the Police.

In the statement Owoyesigyire said “It is true we arrested Ndugwa Deus. We have been calling him to come and make a statement at the Police on what really happened between him and Rickman, but he kept on resisting up to when we found him at Walukagga Shafik’s show known as Fik Fameica, then we arrested him.”
