If you have been wondering whether Bebe Cool (Moses Ssali) literary dropped the microphone, wonder no more. We have an answer for you.

In an interview last Friday in Fort-Portal City, he revealed that he is now busy chasing for big money, which he cannot get from music. Bebe Cool revealed that he is a road constructor.

“Nowadays, I work in road construction and supply road construction materials to the government as a subcontractor for Abu Baker, which pays me well,” he said in an exclusive interview recently.

According to Bebe Cool, it has been a deliberate move to ditch music for businesses like road construction.

“First, I built social capital by making friends with people like the President, Sudhir Ruparelia, Ham Kiggundu and Mike Mukula,” he says.

Bebe Cool narrates that he realized early that his music business would only take him far.

According to Bebe Cool’s theory, you can only get rich if you make friends with the rich, so he did that. And right now, he says, “I just pick my phone and call them for an appointment.

“I used to ask rich people how someone could benefit from them without begging, especially after I had been accused of begging from President Museveni,” says Bebe Cool.

“The rich people told me that Uganda is lacking in infrastructure development, and that’s what the government is prioritizing. I understood that infrastructure means roads, hospitals, and schools, and I saw the potential to earn from these projects,” he adds.

That is how he became a subcontractor in the road construction business.

My job is to fight musicians who support the opposition

Although there are claims that his popularity as a musician dwindled due to a political backlash, Bebe Cool dispels that.

“I used to do music as a full-time business, but now I do it for leisure,” he says.

For that reason, he claims, he turns down most gigs. To convince him to get on stage, one has to cough up at least sh10m, he says.

He also says he no longer enjoys stage performances, and for him, they are now a burden.

“You could pay me sh200m to perform, but after receiving the money, I see the performance as a burden,” he says.

“I started supporting the government to make friends who would give me information about available opportunities,” he says.

“You cannot die poor when you are close to such important people,” he adds.

Amongst his friends, he also mentions Gen. Salim Saleh and Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

Asked about his love and attachment to NRM, he says, “My job in NRM is to fight musicians who support the opposition."
