Sudhir Ruparelia, the Chairman of Speke Group of Hotels, Uganda’s leading tourism and hospitality providers has been recognised for his outstanding contribution to the industry.
The accolade was presented on September 27, 2025, during Uganda’s World Tourism Day National Celebrations in Arua, presided over by Prime Minister Robbinah Nabbanja.
Sudhir, also Chairman of the Ruparelia Group received a golden flamingo trophy, symbolizing his enduring commitment to wildlife preservation and the nation’s tourism sector.
Held at the scenic Arua City Golf Course, the celebration brought together dignitaries, government officials, international guests, and communities from across Uganda and neighbouring countries under the global 2025 theme: “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation.”
In her remarks, Prime Minister Nabbanja commended the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities and its agencies for positioning tourism at the heart of national development. She praised the hospitality of the people of Arua and the West Nile region for hosting the event with cultural vibrance and meticulous organisation.
She further welcomed delegates from the Democratic Republic of Congo and South Sudan, highlighting Arua’s role as a gateway to regional cooperation, cross-border tourism, and cultural exchange. Nabbanja applauded the private sector, singling out investors like Sudhir for their pivotal role in driving economic growth.
Sudhir’s recognition stems from decades of impactful work in wildlife conservation and eco-tourism development. Under his leadership, initiatives have safeguarded endangered species, revitalized national parks, attracted global attention, and empowered local communities through sustainable projects.
Organisers of the celebration emphasised Sudhir’s unique role in balancing environmental stewardship with tourism expansion. “His vision has set a global standard,” a senior tourism official noted, citing the ripple effects of his investments in infrastructure and conservation programmes.
Reaffirming his commitment, Sudhir pledged continued investment in tourism, hospitality, and conservation, underscoring his dedication to protecting Uganda’s natural treasures while promoting the country as a premier destination for nature enthusiasts.
