Iryn Namubiru’s life has been a run of dazzling highs and devastating lows, but her latest appearance on Tusker Malt Conversessions, a podcast show, pulled back the curtain on a story far more emotional than many anticipated.
In a deeply personal episode, the celebrated songstress opened up about family betrayal, industry struggles, and a near-death experience that reshaped her faith.
The most jaw-dropping revelation of the night came when Iryn disclosed that she has not spoken to her mother in over 11 years.
“I have not spoken with my mother in 11 years,” she revealed, a confession that left viewers in shock. The fracture in their relationship stems from the aftermath of the infamous 2013 Japan incident, where Iryn was arrested at Tokyo’s Narita International Airport after drugs were discovered in her luggage.
According to Namubiru, it was a setup. But the real heartbreak came when her mother’s response to the ordeal raised suspicions. Rather than standing by her, Iryn claims her mother acted indifferently, then overly defensive. It was only after reviewing phone recordings and conducting further investigations that the singer came to terms with the unsettling truth about her own family.
“I have everything documented in a manuscript,” she revealed. “I haven’t published it yet, but if anything happens to me, the truth will come out.”
“I have been dead for over 11 years now,” she admitted. The weight of betrayal, relentless scrutiny, and industry politics drained her passion. “People say words don’t kill, but they do. Especially in a society where you can’t talk about certain things.”
But she hasn’t been idle. Iryn revealed that she has been tracking online attacks against her, saving hateful comments, and even tracing IP addresses to identify those behind the slander. “The revelations have been shocking,” she admitted, hinting that she is holding onto the evidence for the right moment.
One of the most chilling moments of the interview came when Iryn recounted her harrowing experience during the 2018 Lake Victoria boat accident. When disaster struck, she heard a voice saying, ‘You will reach, don’t panic, don’t scream, you won’t die.’ That moment solidified her faith in divine intervention.
Despite the struggles, Iryn’s angelic voice remains as powerful as ever. She closed the episode with a stunning performance of Tebiba Bingi and took fans down memory lane with five more classics of Nkwagala Nyo, Nkuweki, Nsonyiwa, Birowoozo, and Kabi Ki.
