Former Makerere University deputy vice-chancellor Prof. Justine Opio Epelu is dead.

The news of his demise was on Monday, April 15, 2024, confirmed by the Soroti County Member of Parliament Patrick Aeku.

“Our elder passed on this morning at 4:00 am at Nsambya Hospital in Kampala,” MP Aeku told New Vision Online.

Opio, who was a professor of veterinary anatomy, was born in Gwetom Ocokican sub-county, Soroti county in Soroti district, and has served on various boards including that of the Uganda National Academy of Sciences/Joint Clinical Research Centre, Uganda.

His death has come at the time Teso is mourning the death of former National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) executive director Dr Tom Okurut who died on Sunday evening in Kampala.

Aeku says the details of the burial shall be communicated later.
