She had a good year. Whether it is career, finances, stardom or her personal life, she had it together.  Many will point to her as the winner of the battle with Sheebah.  She rose politically, celebrated a second marriage anniversary, had a son, steered an association and was crowned by fans as the King.  Enough said.

They've come of age and won international acclaim.  They warmed hearts around the world,  Got a golden buzzer at Britain Got Talent. They crowned the year with a thrilling performance at the CAF awards. 

Kenzo

kenzo's music is for hits and misses. This year was for hits. Balippira Boda is like an anthem. Kenzo has shown astute leadership, steering the music federation to greater heights.  He is like one in control of his destiny.

He stands out as one influential and celebrated Ugandan Djs with a niche. He has a dedicated fan base among the multinationals.  He is the recommended Dj for international music in Uganda. Whether it is at the St.Patrick's Day or Marine Corps Ball, he will be on the decks. He has  patronized many foreign hangouts but remained humble.  His mixes at whatever occasion, leave revellers drenched in sweat from rigorous dancing.

Kampire has been one of the scene’s biggest individual success stories. She has deejayed at Nyege Nyege, and other festivals around Africa. She had also became a fixture on the international festival circuit.

 Her sets are an exhilarating journey through genres such as Afrobeats, Afrohouse, gengetone, kwaito and others.  She is a hit with both young and old.

Alien Skin

He is loved and hated in Equal measure.  Many have categorised his music genre as pirated beats music. Whatever the observations, Alien Skin enjoyed a good 2023.  From flights around the globe, over booked concerts, he is the new Chameleone of the 2000s. Fame is fleeting but we can say he maximised his minutes of fame in 2023.

The year 2023 has been a rewarding year for Azawi.  She released the visuals for the track "Outside" from her sophomore album "Sankofa” to crown the year.

Azawi has been deliberate in her pursuit of musical greatness. After the success of her debut album, "African Music," hailed as the finest female album in East Africa in recent memory, expectations were high for Azawi's next move.  Even though she lost the Trace music Award to Diamond Platnumz, she lit the stage up notably at the Bell Oba fest concert.  It isn’t surprising that the returning Keko named her among the top 3 artistes in Uganda.

His breakthrough hit “Nana” has hit on a global scene and gave him a whole new phase of life on different social media and music platforms.

He also trended at number 1 on Spotify for the same song, which was later remixed by Joeboy, King Promise, and Bien from Nigeria and Tanzania, respectively. He recently released his new album dubbed — ‘Growing Pains’. Will it outshine “Nana”? Regardless, 2023 was good.

Sheebah Karungi

After the battle with Cindy, many branded her the ‘loser”. She has however scored in many ways in 2023.   Singer Keko recently said of her former friend:  "Sheebah is also doing well. She's been consistent. I appreciate her." Keko said.   

Sheebah took political strides when she was discussed on the floor of parliament. She took on politics by the horns as Kenzo’s deputy and she hasn’t disappointed. Former manager Jeff Kiwa is like a footnote in her illustrious career

Vyroota

 

Vyroota, is a 20-year-old versatile artist and rising star but has specialised in RnB in most of his songs.

His breakthrough was when his songs became very popular on TikTok and he has since decided to grow his career to what seems like a good pace. His singles Ndi BulungiBwofananaOne and OnlyMistakeRiskUpendoReady, and Mapeesa have received great hospitality from his fans inclusive of the few collabos he’s had with his biggest being Twafuna Sente featuring Jowy Landa.

Jowy Landa

Joan Namugerwa, popularly known as Jowy Landa, is a 22-year-old who has emerged as a rising star on the musical scene after releasing 13 songs just this year.

She has been touring different managements in her struggle to make it. Under the Team No Sleep manager Jeff Kiwa, her dreams seem to be clearer as she has been releasing hit after hit, making her fans step on the dance floor in Kampala bars.

Some of the songs that gave her a switch this year are Wire Wire, Twafuna, Bajambula.
