If you plan to host tomorrow and on Easter Monday, it’s not too late to prepare your home.

Maureen Nakabuye, an interior designer advises you to start by decluttering.  Remove all the things you don’t need and those you take too long to use.

Go through your house while removing that clutter. This includes; clothes, shoes, toys, cookware, appliances, and furniture. Even if an item is new but you have never used it or do not expect to use it, it is considered clutter.

You can sell, donate, or dump these items. If you are hosting, talk to your guests about your clutter. Never know they might be interested in buying or donating some items.

Gladys Kaaya, a resident of Mukono district recently decluttered and after, she embarked on spring (deep) cleaning of her home. Deep cleaning involves cleaning or scrubbing everything from the carpets, rugs, and floors to the windows, table tops, and walls.

“This work is tiresome. I spread it out over a week and my three children helped with their rooms,” she says.

All to say, Kaaya also washed all the bedding, changing to themed sheets and pillows for a fresh look.

In the living room and bathrooms, she threw away old magazines and broken trinkets. She also scrubbed the bathtub, sinks, and toilets, and added fresh towels, shower curtains, and bathmats.

In the kitchen, remember to declutter the countertops and refrigerator. Nakabuye suggests you sort through all the containers and plastic bags and throw away expired items before cleaning the shelves.

“If you find this work enormous, hire cleaning services and since they work in a group, they will complete the work on time,” she says.
