DJ Maphorisa ignites Kampala at Aura Lounge's two-year anniversary

The screams that greeted him were those of reckless abandon, and you would think someone was trying to strangle some of the ladies.

South African DJ Maphorisa turned up the heat at Aura Lounge in Kololo, Kampala, over the weekend. Performing to an already tired crowd at 3am, he had to pull out tricks from his bag and boy, did he get them on their feet!

The screams that greeted him were those of reckless abandon, and you would think someone was trying to strangle some of the ladies.

He largely ignored them and went on to the decks, mixing his own songs with others. His club bangers, including "Soweto Baby," "Izolo," and "Banyana," had the crowd singing in unison. Glasses went up in the air, and the dancing was comic, one group danced with eyes wide open as if they had seen something awful, while a few danced gently.

With most Kololo bars known for being parked up by midnight, you could hardly find parking space by 10pm.

The event, hosted in partnership with Don Julio, brought together Kampala's A-list party people, all dressed to the nines. The banners and printed visuals on the walkway and pillars leading to the venue filled the place with nostalgia and stories of unforgettable nights.

DJs including City Girl, Selector Jay, Dash, and Spinny kept the audience in high spirits and on their feet. Their mixes spanned Afro-electronic, Afro-house, Amapiano, hip-hop, and dancehall.

Speaking at the event, Judie Nandekya, Senior Brand Manager for Tequila at Uganda Breweries Limited, said the partnership with Aura was a natural fit and congratulated them on reaching their two-year anniversary.

"Partnering with Aura Bar and Lounge came naturally for us. We are happy that in the two years they have been in business, we have moved with them as valued partners," she said.

By the time Maphorisa got his hands off the decks, there was as much sweat on the crowd's bodies as drink inside them. Some took to their seats and simply listened to the mixes.
