The man behind one of Africa’s biggest R&B Party Strictly Soul show that has run across Africa and in Uganda for three editions, DJ Akio Kawahito has been confirmed for the Craig David show set to take place on August 29 at Sheraton Kampala Hotel.
To spice things up at the show, the renowned DJ Akio Kawahito has been confirmed by the organisers as one of the star support acts.
Akio has been here on a number of occasions as spinner and curator of RnB classics for the Strictly Soul show, an event he came up with during the Lockdown.
The show started as Sunday Instagram live stream where Akio played R&B and Soul on his apartment building rooftop in Johannesburg, South Africa. And since then, he has gone on to curate and play at shows around Africa.
His passion for R&B started in his childhood, growing up in the 90s, which he considers the golden era of R&B. He began as a hip-hop DJ but always loved R&B, often playing it as opening sets for other DJs.
With a Japanese father and a Dutch mother, and having lived in Japan and the Netherlands, he is as global as they come.
The organisers of the Craig David show have included a segment known as ‘Jukebox’ that will be curated by the DJ.
It will also feature Ugandan artistes like Kenneth Mugabi, Benon & Vampos, Steve Keys, Irene Ntale, Naava Gray, Juliana Kanyomozi and Unknown Prosper.
Known for his smooth, garage-tinged R&B, British singer Craig David, 44, is popular his hits like I am Walking Away, Seven Days, Fill Me In, Rendezvous and Rise and Fall. He gained global attention when his single Fill Me In and debut album Born To Do It. His feats earned him four MOBO (Music Of Black Origin) Awards at the time.
