The apex body for art and creatives in Uganda, - Uganda National Cultural Centre (UNCC), now has new members on its board of trustees.
This time, the names sound more familiar to art, unlike previously. The new team comprises comedian Hannington Bugingo, musicians Bebe Cool, Jose Chameleon, Lillian Mbabazi, Phina Mugerwa "Masanyalaze," and writer Charles Batambuze.
According to Bugingo, while appearing on a local TV show on January 31st, the new board of trustees' key role will be to ensure that artists are organised across the country, not just in Kampala.
"UNCC is for the whole country. Ours is to, for example, ensure that each region has a place they call home as artists—something similar to the national theatre for each region." Bugingo said
Bugingo also noted that it is quite prudent that artists are now at the helm of UNCC because they understand their plight better than anyone else.
The new board was approved on 30th January by Cabinet
