Sheila Gashumba, a socialite, model and fashion designer with Gash Luxe has said that Uganda is ranked third after Nigeria and Ghana when it comes to wedding and traditional wear.
According to her, based on her experience and international exposure, she also believes there is no reason for Ugandans to fly out of the country to buy fabric for wedding and introduction (kwanjula) ceremonies.
“I don't see any reason for Ugandans to fly out for fabrics and the latest trends in wedding wear. Everything is here,” she said, citing the work of designers like Sheila Tumusiime Mugisha, of Love and Lace Bridal.
She added that Ugandans should learn to embrace and support their own because it builds the industry.

Mugisha was one of the exhibitors at Vision Group’s Bride & Groom Expo 2024 that took place at UMA Multipurpose Hall in Lugogo.
A visibly excited Gashumba revealed how pleasantly surprised she was at seeing the variety of goods and services at the show.
“I have been to many cities and countries that I can't even pronounce, but the designs at this expo are top-notch,” she said while touring one of the stalls.
“I fancy classy and elegant things; that is why I am here,” she added. “It’s my first time at this expo, and I am extremely impressed.”
In its 15th year running, the Bride & Groom Expo took place from June 28-30 under the theme, Together Pakalast.
It was sponsored by Penny Bold Bridal, Fragolino, Crown Beverages (Pepsi), The Looks Bespoke, Uganda Breweries Ltd, and Health Care Limited.
