The Anglican Bishop of Namirembe Diocese, the Rt. Rev. Moses Banja has decried the ever-increasing number of fatal road accidents in the country and called on the government to take more proactive action to save Ugandans from traffic-related irregularities.

As one of the measures to end road carnage, Banja asked the authorities to scrutinize all drivers and subsequently ensure that all those manning vehicles are qualified.

“We have lost a lot of people in road accidents because of bad roads and bad driving.  Many of our drivers are not qualified. We urge those in authority to scrutinize all the drivers and ensure that only those drivers that are qualified are on the steering wheel. If this is not done, we shall continue to lose people,” Banja said.

Bishop Banja was delivering his Easter Message (2024) at St. Paul’s Cathedral, Namirembe (in Rubaga Division) on Wednesday (March 27, 2024).

In his latter remarks, Banja decried what he called the decline of moral consciousness which he said has caused many Ugandans to do wrong things without any sense of shame.

He urged parents to be committed to their God-given obligation of nurturing their children in a proper manner, equipping them with Christian moral values so that they grow up as God-fearing people who love God, respect themselves and other people.

Banja also condemned what he called false teachings and vices such as corruption, violence and murder. He asked parents give their children a solid moral foundation so that they grow as God-fearing people who also have respect for other people.

He asked Christians and all Ugandans to embrace the power of Jesus Resurrection which he said is the only sure guarantor of peace, hope, security and strength.

Bishop Banja concluded his message by wishing President Museveni, Mama Janet Museveni, the entire cabinet and Members of Parliament a Happy Easter. He also wished a joyous Easter celebration to the Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, Nabagereka Sylvia Nagginda, the Buganda Princes and Princesses, members of the Great Buganda Lukiiko and all the cultural leaders.
