Oh boy, that was quite a week, and it was topped off by a triple eviction, and three housemates ‘disappearing’ from the house on Monday.

Season 10 of the Big Brother Naija show, dubbed 10/10, has been like a football match by one of those English clubs that used to win everything, but of late are struggling. They get out of the blocks really slowly, and only realise during the second half that there are things to play for. Then they start playing like they just got onto the field.

That is how Big Brother Naija season 10 has been. Halfway through the season, and they were still 22 largely colourless housemates still playing at ‘being myself’, only being themselves is boring. The only break came from their endless quarrelling and food fights, nothing really serious. And any meaningful romance was snipped in the bud when the man was evicted.

Then came the ‘fight’. Life thrives on conflict, real conflict, at that. And it only becomes when one can pick sides. When Ivatar entered the House, she swore she was different, a ‘bad a**’ who does not take any carp from anybody. But she faded very quickly, and we only saw her in bits and pieces. Till that Sunday when there were no evictions and some guy demanded she apologise for something we failed to catch.

That fight aired during the live show, and it was the most exciting thing to happen this season, and what happens? The week after those crazy ogas made sure the most exciting housemate was evicted. It might have to do with the fact she lives mostly in South Africa, but darn them!

And, when was the last time we saw 3 women get evicted in one night? Big Soso and Doris soon followed Ivatar. While Big Soso was another wallflower, at least Dris had a budding romance going with Denari (what kind of name is that for a guy?).

Nothing seems to be working this season, no romance, no real fights – just grown-ups quarrelling over food. And a whole bunch of wallflowers.

At least the fake eviction of Dede, Joanne and Rooboy brought a twist, tired and overused as it were. It would have been better if they had actually completely left the house, but even Big Brother seems like a wimp. Sigh!
