Producer Axon has asked fellow producers to make music that will earn them a lot of money in the long run rather than the short term.

The producer, who has worked with stars like Azawi, Joshua Bataka, Sheebah and Jon Black, said this during a masterclass in the Creator’s Lab series powered by Guinness Smooth at Paradigm hangout.

In practical, no-frills language, Axon demystified music publishing, explaining how a track landing in a film, documentary or advert transforms into a long-term asset for both songwriter and producer.

He urged creatives to register with publishing and collecting societies such as Sentric Music and BMI, stressing that paperwork may not be glamorous, but it is powerful.

“Music is more than talent and vibes; it’s education, structure and intention,” Axon told the room. “If we want Ugandan music to travel, we must understand the business, protect our work and build systems that allow our creativity to live beyond the studio.”

One of the most striking moments came when Axon addressed ethics in the industry, openly condemning exploitation and calling out the culture of gatekeeping through manipulation. His message was clear: success should never cost dignity.

He also spoke candidly about his own journey, including the decision to create export-ready music with global relevance instead of chasing short-term trends.
