Tungi was also a crowd favourite, with revellers asking relatable questions; almost like they knew him personally, during the Q&A session at the event, which usually happens halfway of every artiste's performance.

Sunday, April 14, was yet another edition of Xpressions; a platform that helps connect young artiste to cooperate and create exposure through their online channel and live shows.

Sunday was the Afro-fusion edition which took place at Icon Lounge, Forest Mall, Lugogo. The edition featured three artistes; Jogé, Tungi and Jenesis, who showcased their music with live performances by Double Black Band.

Jogé was the first act of the night. His name means “these people” and he started releasing music officially in 2022 with a six-track EP titled Borderless, which is meant to cut across not only country borders but also cut across cultures and sound.

“I mean even in Uganda, you know, there are so many blocks between tribes and cultures,” he said.

Jogé's EP is designed to bridge the gap amongst all these differences.

The EP also has different genres like Afrobeat, deep house and Drill which he said were intentional as a way to showcase his versatility in music.

One of his latest releases titled Energy was a crowd favorite. As the saying goes when a song is nice, you play it twice,  that's exactly what happened at Xpressions during his set. He also performed songs like; Most High, Desire and 10 over 10

Tungi was the second act of the night. He said he is delusional about his art/music and likes to do it for purpose and just the fact that he can make music.

Tungi released his first single professionally in 2020 with a single titled Bebe and he later released an EP titled Pearl of Africa Volume i in 2022 and volume ii the next year.

Tungi was also a crowd favourite, with revellers asking relatable questions; almost like they knew him personally, during the Q&A session at the event, which usually happens halfway of every artiste's performance.

He performed songs like; Can't Lie, Paka Wansi, Obsession and so many more. He also has a song titled “Energy” that he also had to perform twice.

Tungi says he appreciates platforms like Xpressions that are helping showcase young talent and helping them believe in their music.

Highlight of the night was Jenesis Kimera. A humble artiste from Kawempe, a Kampala suburb.

Jenesis has been making rounds about town with his latest EP titled “Risky Business” ' which he released in February earlier this year. He also self produced the EP and it features Akiene.

He also has a single titled Kampala that features A Pass and has been doing well since its release late last year.

He has a very deep passion for music and says “If he wasn't performing songs he would at least sell CDs.” He was rewriting lyrics from other artistes like Jamaican dancehall artiste Vybz Cartel and memorising them to later sing for his peers and sometimes performing in small bars. Which is something he started practicing from his time at Mbarara Army Secondary where he also got his name “Jenesis”.

At Xpressions he performed songs like Mukwano Gwange, Tabasamu and Kampala

We also had a chance to catch up with rapper Santana Karmah who said he had taken time off music to find himself creatively and now he is working on a new album titled “Mbiko” which is a place but also a saying that goes “Mbiko bwetakubika ekubikula.” which translates to “a place that can open you up or shut you down.”

He said one single titled Amen, but not a gospel song will be coming out soon.

He also appreciated the work Xpressions is doing by uplifting young talent. He said, “ You know, in a world where we don't have enough sponsors or corporates coming in to Music and supporting young talent and art, I applaud Jameson for what they're doing and this is beautiful.”

Other artistes that came to support include; Akiene, Ninja C, Denesi,GrG and so many more

Xpressions does these events every last Sunday of the month. There are also games like Jenga, cards and Q&A’s where the winners get to win prizes from Jameson. It's a good way to wind down the weekend with young talent being given a space where they really “Xpress” themselves and showcase their music.
