Are table runners still on vogue?

Many modern homeowners are torn between using and not using table cloths/runners on their furniture for fear that they may have run out of fashion in this era. 

However, I recently visited a friend and was surprised to see a table runner on her centre table. 

I have always known her to be a classy person, but this one put me off. I thought that table runners are outdated. Are they still in vogue?
