An artiste's success is not measured from a concert - Ray G

"Kampala is not Uganda. It’s in central region within Uganda and we are all Ugandans, which means we are one people and we have the same rights to freedom. Crossing to Kampala does not change me," Ray G said.

For long, Lugogo Cricket Oval has always been seen as the yardstick for how successful an artiste is when it comes to drawing revellers for concerts.

On Friday, May 10, western Uganda artiste Ray G, real name Reagan Muhairwe, showed his prowess in Kampala as he pulled off one the most successful musical shows to ever happen at Lugogo Cricket Oval in terms of numbers.

In a phone interview, he patted himself on the back for making his fans happy. He, however, called for unity among musicians in Uganda, regardless of region.

"I am one of Mbarara's talented musicians. We are very many and we all love each other. Music has no boundaries. Even cattle move from one place to another. There is no such thing as regional musicians. It’s just a mentality. Kampala is not Uganda. It’s in central region within Uganda and we are all Ugandans, which means we are one people and we have the same rights to freedom. Crossing to Kampala does not change me. I am still the same person. An artiste's success is not measured from a concert. It's false thinking," the 31-year-old said.

Ray G said he deliberately decided to sing while based in Mbarara and in Runyankore to prove a point.

"I wanted to remove the mentality of people who say Banyankore do not sing and they do not know how to sing. It’s not true. It is propaganda. This generation should not think the same. People from western Uganda have got talent like other regions. Uganda is a gifted land with a lot of talents. We have talents all over the regions in Uganda," the Omusheshe singer said.

He assured his fans of producing new music soon.

During a phone interview with Ray G's wife, Annabell Twinomugisha, on May 14, she expressed gratitude to the hundreds of guests who turned up for his show.

"I am extremely happy. I do not have words. Thank you, Ugandans and Ray G fans. You showed him extreme love," she said.

Annabell went on to extol her husband's virtues .

“Ray G is a well behaved man; he listens and understands. He is a responsible man at home. Ray takes his roles at home seriously," she emphasised.

Annabell vowed to love Ray G and protect him from any danger and seducers.

"I will always keep your musician safe. I will guide him and support him to keep him strong. The sky is the limit."
