The Christmas mood at Speke Resort Munyonyo in Kampala city announced itself with the clink of crystal.
Sparkling wine caught the light as guests drifted in, relaxed and ready to celebrate. Children lined up excitedly for their turn with Father Christmas, hopping onto his lap for photos before swaggering off with sweets and oversized gifts. Live music floated through the air, playfully competing with rustling palm trees, while tempting aromas of fresh lake fish, traditional favourites and continental dishes mingled effortlessly.
For first-time visitors, surprise came quickly. The resort’s sleek, modern architecture on the shores of Lake Victoria prompted more than a few raised eyebrows. The food sealed the deal. Ugandan classics went head-to-head with Indian and continental cuisine, turning dinner into a friendly culinary contest. This wasn’t about choosing one culture over another, it was about celebrating them all.
The bar told a similar story. Fine wines shared shelf space with familiar spirits, while Uganda Waragi confidently held its own alongside international labels like Black Label and VAT 69. It was a quiet reminder that local brands shine brightest when served with pride.
