The Vision Group Board has reiterated its commitment to supporting Uganda’s education sector, highlighting teachers as central to translating reforms into meaningful impact.

In a speech delivered by board member Litho Patricia on behalf of the Chairperson, Damulira Sengonzi, the board commended teachers for their critical role in shaping responsible citizens and driving national development.

The remarks were made during the Teachers Making a Difference (TMAD) Awards held at State House Entebbe, presided over by the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Kataaha Museveni.

The board noted that while government has undertaken significant education reforms to align learning with market demands and global technological changes, their success ultimately depends on teachers.

“All these investments and reforms would have little impact without the tremendous effort of our gallant teachers,” the speech read.

The board also praised Vision Group for its continued investment in education despite industry challenges that have seen many media houses scale back development-focused initiatives.

It highlighted the Teachers Making a Difference project as one of the flagship initiatives aligned with the company’s mission of advancing society.

The board further outlined Vision Group’s contribution to education, including pioneering a weekly education supplement and publishing learning materials aligned to Uganda’s competence-based curriculum.

Over the past two years, the company has dedicated up to 11 pages weekly in its publications to learning content, an investment estimated at over sh100 million per week, aimed at expanding access to quality educational materials.

The board also reflected on Vision Group’s growth as it marks 40 years, noting its transformation from a single newspaper into a multimedia organisation with multiple print, broadcast and digital platforms.

Despite resource constraints affecting the media industry, the board said it remains committed to supporting initiatives that promote education and national development.
