Further to its emphasis on academic excellence, it has also maintained a rich niche of morality and co-curricular involvement. During the 1970s, the school had a jazz ensemble, the Eclipse Band, which was popular in the city.

Uganda Martyrs High School Lubaga, in Kampala, has always been renowned for its holistic approach to education.

Further to its emphasis on academic excellence, it has also maintained a rich niche of morality and co-curricular involvement. During the 1970s, the school had a jazz ensemble, the Eclipse Band, which was popular in the city.

And during the 1980s, it had a fantastic football team, which even gave some Super League teams a hard time. After some years of low musical engagement, the school is now back again in the holistic limelight.

Its mass choir participated and performed exceptionally well at the Kampala Archdiocese Music Festival in July. The choir also participated in the Kampala Music Association Festival at the Kampala Serena Hotel.

Lubaga’s acclaimed music performance was evident during the school’s 59th anniversary celebration, which took place at the school recently.

The choir wowed the stakeholders as it crooned classical hymns and local sacred songs by African music composers (such as Joseph Kyagambiddwa and Fr James Kabuye) with stunning expertise and agility.

The choir’s born virtuoso choral conductor, Natalia Sherinah Nasasira, captured everyone’s attention.

The school’s brass ensemble was also at its best as it led the processions. The chancellor of Kampala Archdiocese, Fr Dr Pius Male Ssentumbwe, who presided over the thanksgiving Mass on behalf of Archbishop Paul Ssemogerere, paid tribute to the school for its contribution to society.

He later encouraged the students to utilise every opportunity at the school to secure their future and market the school through their good disposition.

The provincial superior of the Brothers of Christian Instruction, Bro. Casio Aizire, rhymed with the chancellor, saying Uganda Martyrs High School Lubaga was one of the schools of the Brothers that the congregation was very proud of.

The function was also graced by the diocesan deputy education secretary, Fr Dr John Bosco Ssettumba; the school chaplain, Fr Joseph Balikuddembe, and the assistant administrator of Rubaga Cathedral, Fr John Mary Walugembe.

Mugalaasi elevates Lubaga

The contribution of Uganda Martyrs High School Lubaga to the church, the country and humanity that Fr Pius Male acknowledged was demonstrated even more clearly when Archbishop Paul Ssemogerere appointed its alumnus, Eng.
