St. Mary’s College Kisubi (SMACK) alumni amassed 349 stable Ford points to win the second edition of the ‘Clash of Titans’ Golf Tournament played at Entebbe Club on Saturday.

Only in its second edition, the tournament attracted a record 244 golfers on the day with a representation of 19 schools from across the country.

SMACK fielded 20 players but it was Brian Manyindo and Henry Ssali who led their charge with a contribution of 39 points each, while Herbert Kamuntu and Paul Habyarimana added 37 apiece to ensure they edged Ntare School to the championship by a point.

The other outstanding players for SMACK included Richard Mugisha (35pts), Anthony Agaba, and Louis Tumukunde who contributed 34 points each, as well as Mark Kaddumukasa and Brian Rwabogo who contributed 33 each; with Jaime Byaruhanga adding 32.

“We picked out the people who had the potential to return high points from the mode of play which was a stable Ford, to ensure we had the highest points out of our ten best players,” SMACK team captain Richard Mugisha said.

“But overall we kept on encouraging each other, we know each other because we are a group of golfers who are always in touch and always sharing knowledge about the game.

“But it is exciting to win it because we planned better this time and fielded the right people and had a bit of encouragement. We have also played amongst ourselves to know who has what potential, so everyone's contribution was important in getting us this win,” Mugisha stated.

Ntare school and Namilyango College were first and second runners-up with 348 and 347 points respectively in the highly contested one-day annual championship that also attracted participation from Kenyan golfers from Nyanza Club. Ntare also won the school anthem singing contest.

The other contestants included; King’s College Budo, St Henry’s Kitovu, Mvara SS, Ndejje SSS, Namilyango College, Ntare Boys School, Namasagali College, Mwiri College, Tororo College, Kigezi High School, St Mary’s College Kisubi, Makerere College School, Nyakasura School, Nabumali High School, Namugongo SS, Entebbe Secondary and Gayaza High School.

The tournament was sponsored by Hima Cement, Pepsi, dfcu bank Bellwether Properties, Wakefield Business Solutions and Castle Lite Beer.
