St Lawrence University (SLAU) exercised so much command and dominance over Kampala University (KU) when the two sides met two weeks ago in Luzira for their Pepsi University Football League quarterfinals first leg, winning 5-2.

Sensational midfielder Micheal Abura scored a 16-minute hattrick in that match before Micheal Kayongo and Henry Kayemba put the icing on the cake in the second half.

Tony Ndase and SLAU goalkeeper Sulaiman Ssali's own goal were what KU managed on a day they will not want to remember.

The two sides renew rivalries today in Kavule, Mpigi district, the home of SLAU with a big task at hand for the visiting KU if they are to turn things around and qualify for the semifinals.

KU coach Vincent Tumusiime alias Titi Kamala still believes that there is a slim chance for his side in this tie despite their first-leg humiliation.

"We went back and worked on our mistakes after that heavy defeat. I know it looks impossible for many that we can go to Kavule, win and go through but the same way they came to our home and beat us, we can do it too at their home," a confident Tumusiime said.

Tumusiime's side were humbled yes, but they have pedigree in this competition having won it twice under the same coach whereas for SLAU, the best they have done is be runners-up in the previous two editions.

Davis Ssozi, the SLAU tactician expects KU to fight because they need to score goals but he has prepared his side so well to handle the pressure and protect their lead to advance to their third consecutive semifinals.

"It is going to be a tough game, we did win away convincingly in Luzira but football is funny, they can come here, and do the same thing to us. Though we will not allow it to happen because we have worked out an even bigger plan of stopping them," said Ssozi.

The side that will progress today will join Nkumba, UCU, and MUBS in the semifinals.

Uganda Martyrs University Nkozi are the holders of this competition but will not be defending it because they were eliminated by Nkumba in the quarterfinals last week.
