Prof. Edward Rugumayo has been installed as the first chancellor of Mountain of the Moon University ( MMU) two years after getting its charter as a public university.

This happened on Friday, February 23, 2024, during the university's graduation ceremony in Fort Portal city that saw 642 students graduate in different disciplines.

His installation follows his four-year term appointment by President Yoweri Museveni that took place last year in June and according to Section 26(1) of the Universities and Other Institutions Act 2001 with his role specified under Section 30(3) of the UOTIA.

President Museveni, through his speech presented by Vice-President Jesica Alupo, thanked those who vetted Rugumayo and found him an accomplished citizen, a distinguished scholar and a statesman with a wealth of experience spanning over many years.

Rugumayo thanked the President for entrusting him and said he aims at working professionally, and ethically to transform the minds of all through the teaching of science, engineering and mathematics.

" I prioritise incorporating science and technology which resonates with the Government's vision for society rooted in knowledge, innovation and inclusivity thus improving economic growth, social equity and environmental standards," Rugumayo said.

Rugumayo has been the chancellor and chairperson board of directors of MMU since 2005 when the university was private and licensed by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE).
