The Ministry of Education and Sports has rescheduled the 2024 National Primary Schools' Kids' Athletics and Para-Games Championships

The Primary Schools National Kids Athletics and Para-Games Championship that was scheduled for May 5 to 16 will now take place from May 12 to May 22 in Kitgum.

“As Ministry of Education, we have cancelled the earlier dates which were designated for the kickoff of the national championship for the primary schools in the country," said Rev. Can. Dr. Duncan Mugumuya, commissioner of Physical education at the Ministry of Education and Sports.

According to Mugumya, the dates of the national primary schools’ kids’ athletics championship coincided with the dates of the National Census exercise, from May 5 to 16 2024.

A ten-day champion hosted by Kitgum Public School is for the young boys and girls U-12 and U-14 who will be exhibiting skills in the 50m hurdles, 60m flat race, swing, shot put, javelin, 50 by 4 metres relays, and cross country.

William Bwambale, the president of the Uganda Primary Schools Sports Association said the decision to reschedule the Primary Schools National Kids Athletics Championship demonstrates the flexibility and adaptability of organizers in responding to external factors while prioritizing the interests of participants.

According to Bwambale, addressing potential conflicts and ensuring adequate preparation time, organizers aim to create an environment where young athletes can thrive and showcase their talents on a national stage.

As the countdown begins, anticipation mounts among primary school athletes across the country. With renewed enthusiasm and determination, they are gearing up to compete in various track and field events, eager to demonstrate their skills and passion for athletics.
