Presidential advisors get new contracts

State House press officer Farouk Kirunda clarified that there was only one new appointment and the rest were re-appointed or just had their contracts renewed. 

President Yoweri Museveni has renewed contracts of several senior presidential advisors and their assistants.

KAMPALA - President Yoweri Museveni has renewed contracts of several senior presidential advisors and their assistants. 

 According to a statement, their appointment warrants them benefits of a full Cabinet minister such as a vehicle and bodyguard. 

“In pursuance of the goals of the NRM (National Resistance Movement party) and Ugandans in general, His Excellence President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has in line with Article 172 (1) (a) of the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda, reappointed/renewal of contract appointments the most able advisors here below,” the statement from State House reads in parts.  

State House press officer Farouk Kirunda clarified that there was only one new appointment and the rest were re-appointed or just had their contracts renewed.  

“I wish to clarify that there is no new list of presidential advisors issued as is circulating on social media. The only new appointment is of Linda Nabusaayi Wamboka, who has ben appointed presidential advisor on media, the list circulating is of persons already serving as presidential advisors,” he said.  

Those whose contracts were renewed include that of Operation Wealth Creation chief co-ordinator Gen. (rtd) Akandwanaho Caleb aka Salim Saleh, who is a senior Presidential Advisor on Defence. 

Others featuring prominently on the list are former Land Forces Commander, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who is the senior presidential advisor in charge of special operations, and NRM Diaspora League chairperson Ambassador Hajji Abbey Walusimbi, who is the senior presidential advisor on diaspora affairs. 

Events promoter and a member of the ‘MK Army’, a group that supports Kainerugaba, said of his contract renewal: “Congratulations our Supreme Leader Gen. Kainerugaba upon being reappointed senior presidential advisor...” 

Also on the list is former vice-president Dr Speciosa Wandira Kazibwe, who is the senior presidential advisor on population and health under the health ministry. 

Others are: former finance minister Dr Ezra Suruma as senior presidential advisor on finance and economic planning, former security state minister Chris Rwakasisi as senior presidential advisor on special duties and former Minister Without Portfolio Maj. (rtd) Al Hajji Abdul Nadduli as senior presidential advisor for political/mobilisation. 

Prof. Edward Rugumayo is senior presidential advisor on political affairs, while former German ambassador to Uganda Klaus Holderbaum is senior presidential advisor on tourism and investment.

Former works minister Monica Azuba Ntenge is senior presidential advisor on works.

Other senior presidential advisors whose contracts were renewed are former gender minister Hajjat Jannat Balunzi Mukwaya (special duties), Hajjat Hadija Namyalo Uzeiye (political affairs), Maj. (rtd) Kakooza Mutale (political affairs) and former Member of Parliament Florence Mutyabule (poverty alleviation in Busoga region).  

Others are Princess Dorothy Nassolo (public service and culture), Fred Kagambe Kaliisa (oil, gas and minerals), while Mary Amajo advises on public service. 

Can. John Wycliffe Karazarwe (local government and politics), Joan Kategaya Betsimbire (veteran affairs), Col. (rtd) William Omaria Brig. Jacob Asimwe, Patrick Osbert Kahangire, Christine Muhindo, Hajji Edirisa Sseddunga, Prof. Samuel Lwanga Lunyiigo and Elizabeth Kuteesa, Prof. Sheikh Mohamed Ahmed Kisuule, and Brig. Patrick Mwesigye.

The above have been retained and will serve in their respective capacities. They are charged with implementing and representing the four core principles of NRM: Patriotism, Pan-Africanism, Socio-economic transformation and Democracy,” the statement adds.
