Headteachers have been asked to ensure they prepare their learners for assessment under the new lower secondary school curriculum

First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports Mrs Janet Museveni made the call after receiving reports that some schools have continued using the old curriculum even when the ministry transitioned to a new one three years ago.

“Such schools will disadvantage the learners because as you have already been told, this year the examination will be based on the new lower secondary school curriculum,” she noted.

Mrs Museveni, therefore, urged the headteachers to take guidance from the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) to prepare their candidates well for the coming assessment.

Her remarks were delivered to the headteachers by primary education state minister Joyce Moriku Kaducu on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, during the closure of the two-day Senior Five placement exercise at the Uganda Manufacturer's Association grounds in Kampala.

The competency-based assessment emphasises learner-centred pedagogies and the integration of technological and practical innovations in the teaching/learning process.

The 2020 secondary school Language Competency-Based Curriculum replaced the 2008 Integrated English teaching syllabus, which used integration at either subject or unit level as opposed to the teaching of language in isolated compartments like grammar, vocabulary, comprehension or writing.
