The ceremony is also expected to celebrate the continued growth of postgraduate programmes at the western campus, including a new cohort of PhD recipients.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is expected to preside over the ceremony as the chief guest, according to KIU spokesperson Shaun Kimuli, who described the silver jubilee as a landmark in the university’s development.

“Holding the graduation at the western campus, our medical and science hub, symbolises KIU’s progress,” Kimuli said.

New facilities

As part of the anniversary celebrations, KIU is expected to unveil a cancer, heart, and brain surgery department at its teaching hospital. The facility, co-funded by the European Union and KIU, will offer specialised medical services to the region.

The university will also officially open a new, modern main library, the largest academic library in the area, to enhance research and learning.

The teaching hospital currently has over 700 beds and is expanding to accommodate more patients and researchers.

“This project reflects our dedication to advancing healthcare and socio-economic development in Uganda,” Prof. Regina Idu Ejemot Nwadiaro, the deputy vice-chancellor for research and innovations, said.
