Ahead of the campaigning season, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) has launched a campaign dubbed “Mzee Tulumbe.”

The campaign launched yesterday by the party’s youth wing dubbed the Yellow Youth Movement (YYM) aims at mobilizing and safeguarding President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s votes come 2026.

YYM aims at mobilising the youth to vote for Museveni who is the National Chairperson of the NRM party.

During the launch of the campaign in Luzira parish yesterday (April 25), Jacob Eyeru the National Coordinator of the YYM said, unlike the other past Presidents of Uganda, Museveni has done a lot for not only the elderly but also the youth who make up the biggest population of the country.

“In Museveni’s regime, this is where the youth livelihood program was launched, 30% of the Parish Development Model (PDM) introduced, skilling of the youths across the country through the state house skilling hubs.

Because of this, we the youths of Uganda are saying Mzee Tulumbe come 2026,” Eyeru said.

He noted that because of the youth’s population, come 2026, Museveni is to win the general elections with a bigger margin compared to the 2021 general elections where he scored 58% of the total votes in the whole country.

During the 2021 general elections, Museveni scored 6,042,898 (58.38%) votes, National Unity Platform (NUP) party president Robert Kyagulanyi scored 3,631,437 (35.08%), Forum for Democratic Change’s Patrick Amuriat Oboi 337,589 (3.26%) among other candidates.

Eyeru revealed that the campaign has first been rolled out in Luzira but they expect to launch the campaign in the rest of the parts of the country adding that many of the youths do not know what the government is doing for them and do not benefit from the government programs.

Eyeru noted that despite the many NRM-related campaigns aimed at mobilizing votes for Museveni, none of them is led by youth.

“As the youth, we are insisting that in 2026, we have to lead the campaign of the NRM chairperson,” Eyeru said adding that since the youths are to lead the campaigns for the president, they are also to safeguard his votes.

“In the 2021 general elections, Museveni was cheated in the central region but come 2026, we are to safeguard Museveni’s votes jealously,” Eyeru said.

He dismissed claims that no force in government is behind adding that the funds that they use in the launch of the activities are from the youths themselves.

“Maybe if when the NRM party chairperson decides to give us some financial help but for the funds that we are using, these are our funds and this is because we love President Museveni,” Eyeru said.

Kobusingye Winnie the guild president of MultiTech business school called upon girls to come and join the campaign adding that it is only during the reign of President Museveni that the girls and women have been empowered, unlike the recent regimes.
