The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) deputy Secretary General Rose Namayanja has commended Vision Group for its pass Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) pullout in the leading two newspapers (New Vision and Bukedde).
“For the past years, we have been buying newspapers because we wanted to get the pass PLE pullouts that our children use for revision. We do this because we want our children to grade themselves just like other pupils from those renowned schools. Because of the pullouts, the children are now confident and have no fear of competing at a national standard with other children countrywide,” Namayanja said.

She made the remarks on Tuesday (June 18) while passing out 120 graduates from the Rose Namayanja Foundation in Nakaseke district.
The graduates excelled with certificates from the Directorate of Industrial Training (DIT) in mechanical engineering, tailoring, carpentry, catering, hairdressing, and bricklaying among others.
Namayanja said the Business, Technical, Vocational Education and Training Act states that the certificates and diplomas awarded by DIT shall be recognized in the Uganda education system and the labour market.
The certificate that you are receiving here is a true symbol that you are a professional in a certain field, Namayanja said.
Using the same platform, the state minister for Higher Education Dr. John Chrysestom Muyingo revealed that the government has plans to invest more money in skilling the boy and girl children.
He, however, did not mention how much the government is planning to invest in the skilling of youths but said the government launched a skilling program dubbed Skilling Uganda where various Ugandans are skilled so that they can compete for the available jobs countrywide and outside Uganda.

“As you graduate, you are competing with many people that have attained bachelor’s degrees from the universities but without the required market skills,” Muyingo said, adding that the DIT certificates are more valuable and can also be an equivalent to a degree or even a master’s degree.
“A time will come when the government will no longer look at the A’ level certificate alone but they will also look at the DIT certificate as an equivalent of the A’ level certificate or even higher for one to contest for a parliamentary seat,” Muyingo said, adding that they should not only stop at getting one certificate but keep on adding on more.
Severino Akiba Bataringaya, the Principal Qualification Officer in charge of assessment and certification from DIT appealed to the graduates to be disciplined, have integrity, and be dedicated to work among others.

“Whenever you are working, always learn to keep time and always have it at the back of your minds that a customer is the king,” Bataringaya said adding that technical vocational education is the way to go.
“You have to be smart people both mentally at work and wherever you will be,” Bataringaya said.
