Muni University and the National Housing and Construction Company (NHCCL) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to undertake infrastructural developments.

The MoU undertaken in the University’s Boardroom on February 2, 2026, was signed by the University Vice-Chancellor, Assoc. Prof. Simon Anguma Katrini and NHCCL chief executive officer, Eng. Kenneth Kaijuka.

According to the MoU, NHCCL will undertake a master plan, architectural design, costing and actual construction of infrastructure for the university, with the most immediate being the student hostels.

Muni University Council chairperson Eng. Joel Aita said the MoU is in line with the strategic plan of growing the number of students saying this should correspond with the available infrastructure.

“We hope to receive 10,000 students in the next few years, and we are also increasing our programmes. So, this will have an impact on our infrastructure needs, and this partnership will help us in those aspects. One of our biggest challenges now is the lack of hostels, so this partnership will take care of the needed hostels of different values," Aita said.

Equally, Anguma described the MoU as timely, as the infrastructural developments by the Government do not take into account the residential buildings.

“Government was abundantly clear that will only fund non-residential buildings and that left our students at the mercy of the public in terms of accommodation and the hostels accredited by the university can only accommodate 400 students and that is what this partnership is timely and we have the needs of infrastructure with the first been the student accommodation then other will follow later,” Anguma said.

Kaijuka said, “The MoU allows us to look at the different infrastructural needs, and we are going to send our experts to visit the different sites with the land, and we are ready to address the accommodation and infrastructural challenges at Muni based on the MoU, and I think we are going to deliver as expected”.
