Kaberamaido teachers challenged on professionalism

Ebinu noted that many teachers are now graduating from university at just 23 or 24 years old, which can lead to inappropriate relationships with students who are often of similar ages.

In Kaberamaido district, a strong message has been issued to teachers regarding their responsibilities towards students.

Pius Ebinu, the inspector of schools in Kaberamaido, has challenged educators to refrain from engaging in any form of sexual relationships with learners. He emphasised that such behaviour, whether from male or female teachers, is a clear violation of the teachers’ code of conduct.

Ebinu noted that many teachers are now graduating from university at just 23 or 24 years old, which can lead to inappropriate relationships with students who are often of similar ages.

He pointed out that these relationships can have serious consequences, contributing to school dropouts, especially among young girls who may become pregnant. This not only disrupts their education but can also lead to stigma.

Ebinu called on all teachers to strictly adhere to the teachers' code of conduct, highlighting the need for professional integrity in the classroom.
