The Uganda Police Force on Friday said it has postponed interviews for shortlisted applicants for the position of probationer police constables (PPCs).

The interviews had initially been scheduled to take place from April 8 until April 14.

"Due to unforeseen circumstances", they have now been postponed to April 22.

Claire Nabakka, the deputy Police spokesperson, said specific interview dates for each district will be communicated accordingly.

She said all regional Police commanders, regional Police public relations officers, district Police commanders and community liaison officers should disseminate this information to the public.

“We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this change may cause,” said Nabakka.

In February this year, the Police Force announced a recruitment exercise in which they sought 2,500 probation constables.

The Police said they would be receiving applications from Ugandans aged from 18 until 23.

Applicants, required to be physically and medically fit, had to be Ugandan citizens with a valid National ID and with no criminal record.

They had to also be ready to undertake the requisite 12 months Police basic training.

According to the Police Force, recruits must be ready to work for long hours and at times under difficult conditions and in any part of the country.

They should have good communication skills.

An applicant must not be a former or serving officer in any of the forces and must possess a Senior Four certificate or its equivalent with at least four credits, including English, and at least a pass in Mathematics.

Meanwhile, the Police Force was forced to carry out fresh recruitment in Karamoja sub-region following protests from the local leaders after it emerged the names on the list were of people not from the area.
