Many people across the country, especially the youth, are attending church less. This means that Church pews are having fewer and fewer youth due to various reasons.
In a bid to cure the disease, churches are innovating various ways to attract and revitalise the youth's faith in God and draw them back to salvation. Among these innovations are quizzes to help youth understand and interpret the biblical scripture correctly.
Citing concerns that youth are “easily lured into ungodly activities, the senior pastor of Subdue Nations for Christ Church International in Naalya, Kasozi Mutebi, says when they teach young people the word of God, and they take it to heart, they will know what to do and do it right.

“We organise quiz competitions to deepen Christians' understanding and interpretation of the scriptures. For instance, when reading about Jesus' death on the cross, many Christians assume the repentant thief went straight to heaven. Yet Jesus said, today you will be with me in paradise,” Mutebi said.
He made the remarks during the inter-church Bible quiz competitions held at Subdue Nations for Christ Church International in Naalya on May 9, 2026.
Out of the 10 churches that participated in the competition, Healing Power Ministry emerged as the best and won a cash prize of shillings 300,000.
During the intense competition, youth demonstrated a strong foundational knowledge of Biblical history, explaining Scripture in depth and citing examples of some of the powerful men in the bible, including King Solomon and King David, among others.
According to Christians from the Healing Power church, you don’t get into heaven because of baptism; you get into heaven because of repentance.
During the award-winning ceremony, Mutebi encouraged young people to come and congregate in order to learn and have an in-depth understanding of the scriptures and grow spiritually instead of engaging in earthly activities.
Bible interpretation
Javious Kavuma, a Bible teacher ministering with Dove Christian Fellowship church, said many people leave church the way they came because certain church leaders lack Bible interpretation skills.

“One of the challenges I see in most churches is that some preachers are not equipped in scripture understanding. They skip from the revelation itself, which is the Bible, onto the application,” disclosed Kavuma.
According to Kavuma, some preachers apply scripture out of context. For example, you cannot take words meant for people in different circumstances and force them into our time. Though the Bible was written for our learning, we are not Ephesians, Galatians, or Israelites of that time.
“Church leaders must study the bible thoroughly before rushing into applications to avoid errors,” Kavuma said.
