Hoima District Local Government has launched education infrastructure projects worth sh560 million aimed at improving the quality of education service delivery.
The projects, funded under the School Facilities Grant for the 2025/2026 financial year, were officially launched on January 6, 2026, by Hoima resident district commissioner Rogers Mbabazi. They are located in Kapapi, Kisukuma and Bombo sub-counties.
Among the projects is the construction of a three-classroom block at Kapapi Primary School in Kapapi subcounty, contracted to Basingo Contractors at a cost of sh177.7 million.
The Hoima district education officer, Harriet Kihumuro, said the new classroom block will help address congestion at the school, which had an enrolment of 1,759 pupils by the end of the 2025 third term.
She noted that some learners had been studying in a makeshift tent, which caused significant inconvenience.
Kihumuro added that other projects include the construction of a five-stance pit latrine at Kyamukwenda Primary School in Kapapi subcounty by Gervinho Contractors at a cost of sh32 million, as well as a two-classroom block at Bukona Primary School in Kisukuma Sub-county by Basingo Contractors at a cost of sh120 million.
“We have been having a challenge of inadequate classrooms in some of our schools, but through the project, we are going to construct more blocks which will accommodate our children,” Kihumuro said.
Mbabazi also launched works on a two-classroom block at Kitemba Primary School in Bombo subcounty, being constructed by Muda Construction Company at a cost of sh109 million, and another two-classroom block at Haiguru 1 Primary School in the same sub-county, contracted to Bamusi Field Contractors at a cost of sh120 million.
“I am appealing to the contractor who is going to implement these projects to ensure that the works are completed on time, and we don’t want shoddy work,” Mbabazi said.
Mbabazi commended the district leadership for ensuring public funds are invested in projects that will benefit thousands of pupils by providing safer and more conducive learning environments.
Hoima district LC5 vice chairperson Hellen Mulumba said the district remains committed to improving education standards, particularly through investment in essential school infrastructure.
