President Yoweri Museveni has appointed former Electoral Commission chairperson Eng. Dr Badru Kiggundu as the Busitema University chancellor.
The appointment means that Kiggundu becomes the third chancellor of the young public University, which was established as a multicampus model with its main campus located at Busitema, Busia district.
Initially, the University started with two faculties, namely: Engineering at the Busitema campus and that of Science and Education at the Tororo district-based Nagongera campus.
Currently, there are six operational faculties, including the Faculty of Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences at Namasagali Campus, the Faculty of Agriculture and Animal Sciences at Arapai Campus, the Faculty of Health Sciences at Mbale Campus and the Faculty of Management Sciences.
Vice-chancellor Prof. Paul Waako, on November 17, 2025, took to social media announcing the news and congratulating Kiggundu on behalf of management, staff and the students' community.
According to a statement from the university, Kiggundu will be installed on November 28 at the main campus, and he is also expected to preside over its 16th graduation ceremony.
