BUDUDA - As the country prepares to carry out the 2024 National population and housing census, many districts have embarked on the recruitment of enumerators and their supervisors.

In Bududa, the recruitment exercise is ongoing but many of the applicants have been rejected due to a myriad of reasons with the top being the lack of required documents, forgery and overage.

Over 4,000 applicants applied for two positions of enumeration and supervision. however according to the Uganda Bureau of Statistics, one who shall be employed as an enumerator is supposed to have minimum qualifications of A'level and for one to be a supervisor, the minimum is a diploma.

This saw over 200 applicants thrown out for lack of required qualifications as enshrined in the guidelines by the Uganda Bureau of Statistics.

Bududa district local government principal assistant secretary Charles Musaba said the exercise was successful but also confirmed having dismissed over 200 for lack of required qualifications and those who had forged documents.

Musaba represented the chief administrative officer and he was the recruitment team leader.

Musaba made the revelations during a media briefing at Bushigayi sub-county headquarters on Sunday, April 21, 2024.

He said over 30 applicants were over 50 years of age, which is against UBOS guidelines.
Evelyn Nandudu, the Bududa district planner and the District census officer, said they are looking forward to a successful exercise.

They should have just helped me

Bernard Wandulu, one of the applicants who was rejected, said he did not know that they wanted such qualifications otherwise he wouldn’t have applied. According to him, he was part of the 2014 census enumerators.

Brenda Watsemba, another applicant who was thrown out of the interview room said during the application, they were required to only put the level of education but she did not know that they would request any document.

She said she is a Village Health Team (VHT) member who also thought she would help the Government to perform the exercise.

Bumayoka sub-county LC3 chairperson Titus Kusolo,  who was also thrown out, said they would have just helped him because he did not know that they wanted the diplomas and degrees for supervisors which he did not have.

Bududa deputy chief administrative officer Martin Max Mukula asked those who will succeed to disengage from all other activities and work for the country so that there can be better service delivery.

He said those who were rejected did not follow the guidelines, something that would not bother them as interviewers.

The exercise shall commence on the 10th of May for 10 days and according to the Uganda Bureau of Statistics, Bududa district has 909 enumeration areas and 160 parishes this adds up to 1069 employees in the exercise.
