Over 40 scholarships are up for grabs by Ugandan students who are financially constrained but eager to pursue further studies in their desired academic disciplines.

The scholarships have been offered to lucky Ugandan students by Cavendish University in Uganda, based in Kansanga, a Kampala city suburb.

This was announced by the university vice-chancellor, Prof. John Mugisha during a press conference at the university campus in Kasanga on Thursday.

Mugisha said in giving out the scholarships, the academic merit and financial status of the applicants will be considered except for those provided by the first deputy Prime Minister Rebecca Kadaga, Dr. Riek Machar, and Benjamin Mkapa, the former President of Tanzania, which are dedicated to a specific group of beneficiaries.

“We have 40 full scholarships as we begin our semester on September 1, this year. We, therefore, invite students to apply for the scholarship so that they can pursue further studies,” Mugisha said.

Besides full scholarships, Mugisha said they will also offer half bursaries to several students to fulfill their academic dreams.

“Even to the applicants that will not succeed, we shall offer them half bursaries so that they may realise their academic dreams,” Mugisha said.

During the press conference, Mugisha also announced that the 12th university graduation ceremony will take place on August 10 at Speke Resort in Munyonyo and it will be presided over by the former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan, the university vice-chancellor.

According to Mugisha, over 700 students from over 30 African countries will graduate in different disciplines on that long-awaited day for the students.

Dr. Monica Musenero, the minister of science, technology, and innovations will be the chief guest at the ceremony.

David Mutabanura, the university executive director encouraged students to give priority to the university saying several progressive courses have been introduced such as a master's in information technology, a diploma in paralegal studies, and a higher education certificate in biological sciences programs.

“These programs and those already in place provide a wide range of practical skills that will sharpen the knowledge, skills, and attitudes of our students to respond to respective future day-day industry remedies,” Mutabanura said.

Mutabanura commended the government for introducing the 5G network saying it is going to enhance online teaching.

“We salute the government for introducing the 5G network but it should aptly reduce the cost of the internet for effectiveness,” Mutabanura said.
