Museveni eulogises ex-Bunyoro premier, MP Mutiti

The President described the late Mutiti as a patriotic and dedicated leader who made immense contributions to both his country and the Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom.

President Yoweri Museveni has mourned former Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom deputy prime minister Nyendwoha Mutiti, describing him as a dedicated public servant who served the country diligently.

Mutiti was a former Member of Parliament (MP) for Buliisa and the father of incumbent Buliisa district Woman MP Norah Bigirwa.

In his message delivered by Deputy Speaker of Paliament Thomas Tayebwa during Mutiti’s burial at Kinogozi Village in Masindi, on February 1, 2026, Museveni said the former legislator was a committed NRM mobiliser who contributed greatly to development, particularly in the education sector.



The President described the late Mutiti as a patriotic and dedicated leader who made immense contributions to both his country and the Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom.

He also noted that Mutiti was a committed NRM cadre who played a key role in popularising the NRM in the region. Mutiti, according to Museveni, was among the original 178 promoters of the National Resistance Movement (NRM).

On his part, Tayebwa highlighted Mutiti's significant contributions to debates in the 7th Parliament, particularly on education and security.

"I also thanked the people of Masindi for voting the President and NRM Members of Parliament in last month’s election. I pledged government’s committed to fulfilling its promises, such as eradicating poverty and ensuring that education is 100% free," Tayebwa posted on social media.

The burial was attended by legislators, religious leaders, including Church of Uganda Archbishop Emeritus Stanley Ntagali and public service state minister Mary Mugasa, among other dignitaries.

The president contributed shillings 10 million to cater for burial expenses.​​
