MPIGI - The Mpigi Chief Magistrates' Court has charged and remanded a 49-year-old man, with nine counts including aggravated defilement and trafficking in children.

Security operatives raided the man's (names withheld) home in Kayabwe town council and arrested him from one of his shrines.

He was held at Mpigi central police station as police conducted an investigation.

Identified as a witch doctor, operating several shrines at Butamba B, village, in Mpigi district, the father of over 10 children appeared before Mpigi Chief Magistrate, Jane Frances Nanvuma, on Wednesday (May 15, 2024) and he was charged with eight counts of aggravated defilement and one count of trafficking in children.

According to the charge sheet, the accused while at his home defiled his eight biological daughters aged between 11 and 15 years.

On the same charge sheet, court heard that between 2021 and 2024 in Najjera Wakiso district, the suspect took a young girl of 15 years, away from her mother without her consent.

Court did not allow the suspect to answer the charges or even say anything because the offences he is battling are capital in nature and can only tried by the High Court, and he was advised by the magistrate to ask for bail if he so wished only in the High Court.

The State attorney, Drane Kansiime, told court that investigations regarding the case are still ongoing and he was sent on remand until May 21 when he will appear in court again for further mentioning of his case.

The 49-year-old father of several children was arrested after some of his biological daughters reported to police accusing him of sexually assaulting them and infecting them with AIDS.
