Kawempe North legislator Muhammad Ssegirinya's unwavering humour, humility and dedication to his people endeared him to many across the country, the Justice Forum (JEEMA) has said.

Ssegirinya passed on January 10, 2025, after a long illness at Rubaga Hospital in Kampala city.

The party, in a statement signed by spokesperson Dr Swaib Kaggwa Nsereko, has equally condemned what it called the torment of Ssegirinya which could have led to his deteriorating health.

"Ssegirinya's relentless pursuit of justice, even in the face of immense adversity, has left an indelible mark on the hearts of Ugandans. His unjust imprisonment and the subsequent deterioration of his health serve as a painful reminder of the urgent need for unity, dialogue, and justice in our nation,” Nsereko says in the statement.

“To the bereaved family, the people of Kawempe North, and all Ugandans, we extend our heartfelt condolences. Uganda has lost not just a leader, but a symbol of resilience and service to humanity,” he adds.

According to Nsereko, JEEMA remains steadfast in its call for a fair and inclusive society where injustices become a thing of the past.

“May his legacy inspire us to build a more just and united Uganda. May Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Jannah,” Nsereko says.

Rubaga Hospital officially announced the passing of Ssegirinya a few hours after it had denied earlier reports of his death. The hospital said he breathed his last at 12:10pm.

“Hon Ssegirinya has been under the dedicated care of our medical team at Rubaga Hospital. Despite all efforts to ensure his recovery, he passed away... On behalf of the hospital, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the Parliament of Uganda, the Speaker, the Deputy Speaker, Members of Parliament, his family and the people of Kawempe North, whom he represented with passion and commitment,” the statement reads.
